Founded in 1922 by Theodore Woodhead, the practice has over the years built a solid reputation in the fields of business, commercial, property law, in the litigation sphere, in marine, insurance, family, employment and tax law, and in the administration of trusts and estates. Huntly Bigby joined Woodhead in 1946, and served as Senior Partner for over 30 years until 1987. His son, Scott, became a partner in 1984 and is the current Managing Director of Woodhead Bigby Inc. The practice incorporated as a company on 1 May 2000. The Durban office of Woodhead Bigby Inc has occupied the same premises in central Durban for more than 60 years and has been a member of the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry for over 50 years. Woodhead Bigby Incorporated also has offices on La Lucia Ridge and is represented in Pietermaritzburg through the offices of Ngcobo Irving Inc., which firm Woodhead Bigby Incorporated co-founded with other participating lawyers.
