This is a group of laws which focus on the broadcasting, performance and music industries.
In the world of media there are legal concepts across multiple subject areas, including intellectual property, contracts, business associations
securities law and labour and employment law. Media law attorneys need to understand these substantive areas of law to assist their
clients with projects that are not necessarily considered traditional legal work, but have legal and business implications. This includes reviewing
and commentating on pitches and budgets for television series, films, mobile apps, or other entertainment projects.
Contracts form an integral part of media laws as license agreements have to be made on a regular basis. Each area covered under media
law has its own requirements which calls for an expert professional to attend to the drafting of entertainment contracts and other legalities that have to be dealt with.
The types of contracts that will be required in media law ranges from setting up a business, procuring a production house, draft servicing and
facilitation agreements, co-production agreements. It is important not to underestimate the necessity to have a well-drafted contract that takes all
the specific areas of specialised fields into consideration.
